Killer Web Content

leave a comment

By web content guru Gerry McGovern:

If you don’t have good metadata and appropriate classification, then your content becomes much harder to find. Your search will become much less effective and your navigation much less useful.

Content management must always be about quality first, quantity second.

Prioritize. Limit. Choose. A relentless focus on quality should be at the beginning, middle and end of your publishing process.

The same is probably true for personal weblogs, albeit to a lesser degree. But if you ever want your weblog be read by others, paying attention to content quality seems a must to me.

Information Security Certificate

leave a comment

Ever wondered how many information security certifications are there, what do you need to gain an edge in the field?

First, to show that you have basic understanding /experience of network security you need to know the inside-out of these security devices: firewalls, antivirus solutions, and intrusion detection devices. A Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) can help you here.

To venture further into broader security arena, you can probably look at these options. Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) is a good place to start, and is frequently mentioned in job ads. This certification denotes a recognized mastery of an international standard for information security. The exam measures understanding of 10 main security areas.

Other certifications include: Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) (founded by the SANS Institute), CompTIA Security+, TruSecure ICSA Certified Security Associate (TICSA), Security Certified Network Professional (SCNP), Security Certified Network Architect (SCNA), Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP).

Value Gap

By Jeff Thull, author of “The Prime Solution: Close the Value Gap, Increase Margins, and Win the Complex Sale”.

Value truly is in the eye of the beholder. If your customer can’t perceive the value you provide, it doesn’t exist. Period.

The value gap can often be traced back to cross-functional dysfunction, a term that basically means your departments are not working together—or, even worse, they may be in conflict with each other. For example, R&D creates new products that have little connection with the customer’s real problems. Marketing generates leads but is not held accountable for the results. Salespeople merely “present” solutions instead of seeking out relevant information on what the customer’s real requirements are.

On My Yahoo front page, the alphabet ‘e’ has been hijacked by BMW’s ‘3’, ostensibly referring to its 3-series. See for yourself below. Was it ‘smart’ advertising? Or was it a bug?
